What Might Be Coming

I've been thinking lately about a classic scene from Singin' In The Rain. It's the scene where the movie studio is trying to make "The Dueling Cavalier" into its first talking picture. And it's a disaster. They don't know where to put the microphone - -they put it in a plant, in Lina Lamont's dress and so on. They let the silent stars ad-lib, which they have no ability to do. The sound effects are terrible, at one point the sound and film become unsynchronized, it's a holy mess.

That, more or less, has been the short and happy history of the Poscast.

Oh, I'm going to keep doing it ... because (to my great surprise) I kind of like doing it. It's fun to spend an hour or so talking with people around sports. But, I'm fully aware that it has been a technical and artistic disaster. The technical issues have been my own. When interviewing Jim Nantz, I basically forgot to secure one of the wires so that the interview came out as me interviewing silence. I had the great Keith Law over to my house to interview him, and it did not occur to me that I might want him to sit, you know, close to the microphone. And so on. The artistic issues ... well, as I've often said, I'm terrible on radio.

But, as mentioned, it has grown kind of fun. I spent an hour and twenty minutes or so talking baseball and general stuff with Michael Schur over the weekend, and I think it's the best recording we've had yet. Someone helped me rework some wires and so I think it actually sounds quite clear. As for the content: Well, we had a good time. And I think that's what matters here. I've gotten a few nasty emails about the Poscast quality, which I understand I suppose, though not really. As far as I know, it's optional and also it's free. I hope so anyway since I get paid exactly $0.00 to do it.

In any case, the Mike Schur Poscast should be up later this afternoon and like everything associated with this blog, I hope you like it. I think Michael's hilarious. But like everything associated with this blog, there's no obligation.* I'll try to have fun with it and keep trying to overcome all the technical pratfalls.

*Though, as mentioned in a previous post, there may be prizes involved.

Now, I'm going to Georgia to spend a little time in the TaylorMade Performance Lab (this Golf Magazine column is going to be a hilarious adventure) but here are a few posts that may be coming up:
